Damp homes are harder to heat, as well as being uncomfortable and unhealthy to live in.
Follow our tips and guides to keep your home free of damp, saving you money on your bills and reducing your carbon footprint.
How to find the cause of damp
It can be hard to track down the causes of damp. It’s generally one of these:
- a problem with the structure of your house (e.g. a leaky gutter, soil banked up against a wall)
- condensation
Watch our series of short videos below to help you work out which of these problems might be causing the damp in your home. If you think it’s due to the building fabric and it’s not something you can do yourself, we recommend getting advice from an expert, such a builder.
If it’s due to condensation, our videos should help you resolve it. They’ll show you the main ways that we all create moisture just by going about our everyday lives in our homes. You’ll get tips on ventilating your home properly, too.
You’ll also learn how to use your heating controls effectively. Controlling the temperature in your home can help prevent damp. In some cases, you might also save money by using your heating more efficiently.
