We are Cumbria's climate change and sustainability organisation.

How we work

We work across Cumbria to enable individuals, communities, businesses and local authorities to reduce the county’s carbon footprint and bring about a more sustainable way of life here.

We manage and deliver:

  • events
  • advice
  • training
  • practical projects
  • specialist consultancy services

How we’re run

CAfS is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

We are a team of more than 40 staff, most of us part time, led by our CEO and board of 7 trustees. We are delighted to have carbon footprinting expert Mike Berners-Lee as our patron.

CAfS work is funded through a mix of grants, earned income, contracts and donations. Over the next few years, we are planning to build our donations and other unrestricted income streams so that we can undertake our climate action work in areas that don’t attract much external funding.

The pie chart on this page shows how we’re funded. To find out more about our work, please read latest annual report for 2021-22.
