Get involved in tackling climate change in your area.

Sustainable Carlisle freebie stallThere’s so much inspirational action going on in towns and villages across Cumbria, as local people come together to raise awareness, support each other and develop projects to cut carbon emissions.

On this page, you can find out more about some of the local sustainability groups across Cumbria, but you can also get in touch with CAfS to find out more about setting up your own group if there isn’t one near you, and the support we can offer. If you’re looking to set up your own activities or groups, funding is available to help you get started. Email [email protected]

(Also see our guide on how to go about making a community more sustainable.)

Even if you don’t want to get actively involved, why not follow your local group on social media and sign up for their newsletter? You’ll hear about events and activities you could go to and you could help them spread the word by sharing to your friends and family.

Cumbrian sustainability groups

Here’s your at-a-glance guide to the community sustainability groups around Cumbria. For more information about what they do and how to get involved, visit our Cumbria Sustainability Network page >

Cumbria Sustainability Network

Many of the groups on this page are part of the Cumbria Sustainability Network (CSN). They come together to share information and good practice, and to support each other.

The CSN is supported by a coordinator who is based with CAfS and is employed as part of the Lottery-funded Zero Carbon Cumbria project. The CSN coordinator is able to give one-to-one advice and support to groups that want to get started on taking action on climate change, and to help established groups develop new projects.

The coordinator can link you in to other groups across the county and you can also join the online CSN networking space – it’s called Workplace and it’s a private version of Facebook where the CSN members share information about events, activities, training and funding opportunities.

Funding support for sustainability groups is available through the Community Climate Grants programme.
