The Greenprint has played a key supporting role within the Alston Old Primary School development plan.
The school had been empty for over two years by the time the Greenprint project drew to a close in February 2020. The community would really like to make use of it, but it’s a large site and an old building, which would be expensive to restore and hard to heat.
Through the Greenprint we’ve been able to offer support to the working group, provide research trips out to other community building developments and to gain useful advice from other projects.
Visiting the Appleby Hub, which is run by the Oaklea Trust, was a turning point. We all felt it was a model we would like to try to replicate in Alston and the Greenprint has been able to facilitate the initial communications between the Oaklea Trust and the working group.
