This is the exciting but challenging phase when work gets under way.

We are currently piloting two on site support services:

On site support – Advocacy

This is a flexible service to help ensure that your voice as home owner is heard and the response from contractors or suppliers understood. It could take place virtually or on site at any time you would find useful such as: at the initial project meeting with contractors; on the first day on site, to ensure everyone involved is clear of the project objectives and approach; or at hand over once works are complete.

  • Provide a template meeting agenda for you as the home owner to amend to suit need.
  • Act as a neutral chair/facilitator/advocate during a meeting.
  • Record or take notes at a meeting.
  • Prepare an objective summary of a meeting.
  • To ensure your voice is clear.
  • To ensure the contractor view is understood.
  • To ensure you have the information you need to make your own decisions.
  • Make decisions for you.
  • Tell you which is the best choice or what you should agree to.
  • Provide dispute mediation or legal advice.

This service is tailored to those not working with an architect at this stage, but can be found useful by any client taking responsibility for some elements of project management themselves.

On site support – Technical Question

This is a flexible service providing an opportunity for you as the home owner, or your construction team to ask a technical question if something arises as your project progresses.

  • Client/contractor provision of photographs, drawings or written specification, where clarity is required.
  • Retrofit specialist to undertake research to resolve query, such as, communication with manufacturer, specialist retrofit architect, or other accredited/ accountable information source.
  • Virtual or on site meeting to communicate response to the question.
  • Production of a summary of the question and response.
  • To provide highly skilled retrofit support to contractors and/or householders to support decision making in bespoke situations.
  • To provide interpretation of information from other parties, such as system providers, or providers of standard specifications, in relation to the project/situation.
  • Provide detailed designs.
  • Guarantee the outcome of work done.
  • Make a decision on the best course of action.

This service is tailored to those not working with an architect at this stage, but can be found useful by any client taking responsibility for some elements of project management themselves.

Cost: The above services are currently free for suitable retrofit projects, as part of a pilot funded by Energy Redress.
