We're just days away from this year's Great Big Green Week so it would be remiss not to lead with all the brilliant events taking place across the county.

Plus a report on our celebratory event with Shed One Distillery, a reminder about our Climate & Carbon Literacy courses, more events and a new job opportunity here at CAfS.
 

Great Big Green Week kicks off on Saturday, and there are stacks of events across the county, so there's bound to be something for you, near you! All of the events - and there are over 40 events already listed - are detailed over on the Zero Carbon Cumbria website, and there are more being added all the time! There's food, growing and composting; litter picks and beach cleans; a whole stack of lifestyle events, swap shops and repair cafes; and films, talks, workshops, webinars and quizzes.

Our expert Cold to Cosy home energy advisor, Amy, will share her top energy saving tips to make your home warmer and cut your costs. She'll cover the energy price cap, and answer all your queries in a Q&A session.

Youth Practitioners' Forum

This event for volunteer and paid youth workers, will explore what youth activity is happening, and delve into new ideas to act on youth opinion. Share good practice, spot any gaps, plus networking and lunch!

Climate & Carbon Literacy Courses 

You're already likely to know about our award-winning Climate & Carbon Literacy courses, and coming up later this month we have one for Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises on 21 & 28 June, and one in partnership with Cumbria Tourism, for tourism and hospitality businesses on 22 June. Next month, we've got a course for individuals and organisations in July.
 
Celebrating our partnership with Shed One 

Last month, Shed One distillery hosted a fundraiser for us to celebrate three years of our charity-business partnership, alongside launching their new 100% recycled glass bottles. Guests enjoyed a tour, heard about Shed One's sustainability initiatives and there was plenty of chat around green business practice.

Our own Nick & Caroline (pictured) talked about CAfS work and the support we can offer businesses on their low carbon journey. They shared several ways of partnering with CAfS and the benefits of linking up with us.

Another Shine Fest | Solar Made Easy

Thursday 15 June | 18:00 - 21:00

Woah, this sounds like the best launch to our Solar Made Easy project! Organised by Mycelium Thinking, Another Shine Fest in Ulverston promises to be a summer  evening choc full of sunny performances, art-making and finding out everything you need to know about solar PV on your roof! And if that's not enough, there'll be an open-mic session towards the end of the night!

Community Renewable Energy Event

Thursday 15 June | 18:00 - 21:00

An online event which will cover an intro to community renewables, the role of local councils and the community renewable energy initiatives already happening in Cumbria. Plus a round up support available, including specialist consultancy and grants from CAfS, and  Q&A. This event is for town and parish councils, individuals and communities who wish to pursue renewable energy projects.

Youth Projects Coordinator

Our Youth Projects Coordinator role is a brilliant opportunity to enable the county’s young people to take action on climate change and ensure their voices are heard.  Through the wide range of activities that form the Cumbria Youth Climate Action Programme, you’ll be helping to expand their knowledge around carbon reduction, develop their communication skills, and empower them to engage with policy makers, politicians, business leaders and the media.
