Climate Fresk for School Staff

Workshop Overview

Climate Fresk is our new, half day training offering to complement the full day Climate and Carbon Literacy related courses we already deliver. We are delighted to be offering this dedicated session for all local school staff (primary and secondary) in Cumbria at a discounted rate of 80% off our usual ticket price (£19 instead of £97). The workshop is open to teachers, teaching assistants, governors and other school staff and is supported by the NEU.

Schools are being asked to have in place a Sustainability Lead by September 2025 and to develop a Climate Action plan. This session will secure climate science knowledge in your  school staff, enabling them to apply their knowledge to the DfE expectation,  as well as giving time to consider how school-based solutions can support your climate action plan, and make a difference to your community.

Climate Fresk is an extremely interactive group activity where a facilitator uses a pack of cards to support a group of people to map the causes and effects of the climate crisis, and together, through discussion, unpick the complexities, interrelated issues and feedback loops involved. It is a really engaging, collaborative method for understanding the fundamentals of climate science. It uses 42 ‘cards’ drawn directly from the latest IPCC reports and gives a deep dive into the whole climate system. The visual and interactive nature stimulates discussion, debate and group problem-solving. And it is really good fun! You will join a rapidly growing movement of 1.8 million participants worldwide. You can click on the Climate Fresk logo below to find out more about the movement.

The course will be delivered by expert trainers working on behalf of Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS). CAfS co-chair the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership and run Cumbria’s Climate and Carbon Literacy training programme. A certified Platinum Carbon Literate Organisation, our team of certified Carbon Literate trainers bring decades of practical emission-reduction expertise, in-depth knowledge of the local area as well as significant training experience.

The workshop is supported by the National Lottery Community fund as part of the wider Greener Schools project which is also funded by Walney Extension Community Fund, Cumbria Community Foundation’s #CanDo, #iwill and Fairfield, Tallentire and Winscales wind farm funds.

Additional information

Climate Fresk involves discussion in small groups, around tables. We have booked a room large enough for the group but there will still inevitably be background noise from other tables. If that would cause issues for you, please contact us in advance of booking to discuss options.

If you have any accessibility requirements or feel there is anything we should know in advance of the course to helo you fully participate, please add this to your booking form. For example if you want to make our trainers aware of any learning difficulties, dyslexia or any sight, mobility or hearing impairments.

There will be photos taken on the day of the training session in action, for us to use in publicity materials. If you do not wish to be included in any photographs, please let the photographer/trainer know on the day.
