Why we collect information about you and how we ensure that what we do with it is lawful

If anyone can be identified by any information that we collect, this information is called ‘personal data’. Data protection law says that CAfS must have a reason or ‘purpose’ for collecting and using personal data.

We cannot use your personal data for any reason unless we have a lawful basis to do so.

PURPOSE LAWFUL BASES USED
To encourage and enable residents and businesses in Cumbria to calculate their carbon footprint and as a result take action to reduce it. The data subject has given consent to the processing.

You do this by using the calculator.

To monitor engagement of residents and businesses with the tool and to inform an assessment of the carbon footprint of a whole place and how that is reducing over time

and

To ask you for feedback about your use of the calculator, the information it gives you and what action you have taken as a result.

The processing is necessary for the purposes of legitimate interests pursued by the data controller or by the third party or parties to whom the data are disclosed, except where the processing is unwarranted in any particular case by reason of prejudice to the rights and freedoms or legitimate interests of the data subject.

How long do we keep your information?

Your personal data will be deleted from the calculator five years after you last use the service. We will review our use of the calculator every five years and if appropriate, inform you of any changes.

Who do we give it to?

The carbon footprint calculator is owned and managed by Carbon Footprint Ltd., so it is able to access your personal data. We recommend that you read its privacy notice at https://www.carbonfootprint.com/termsandconditions.html This will tell you how Carbon Footprint Ltd. uses your personal data.

CAfS will not give your personal data to anyone else.
