Delve into community energy – present and future – during this evening with Burneside Community Energy (BCE).
Community energy is a great way to generate an income for projects in your community, as well as a dividend for members, all while generating clean energy and helping to tackle climate change. 
There are now several community energy groups and cooperatives around Cumbria, with renewable energy projects powered by solar, hydro and wind. This event gives you a chance to find out about one of them, Burneside Community Energy. 
This group has worked in partnership with the James Cropper PLC paper mill in the village to install solar PV arrays on the roof of the mill. We’ll take you along the inspirational journey of BCE, now approaching its first gigawatt of solar PV generation. Find out how the community benefit company was created, its relationship with James Cropper PLC, how it benefits the community and the business, and what its plans are for the future. 
Discover how an ambitious project is afoot to generate electricity that’s 100% owned and generated by the community and to distribute recovered heat to 180 new dwellings. This is a story of dreams and ambitions way beyond the average – in fact, it’s a glimpse into the possible future of local energy.
Our speaker for the evening is Phil Davies, co-founder and director of BCE. Phil is also part of the CAfS team. 
This event is for anyone with an interest in community energy – from the general public to businesses, organisations and local authorities.

Things to know before you book

Accessibility: There is a ramp up to the main door of the venue, but then three steps up to the main hall. A temporary ramp can be set up from the car park entrance into the main hall if arranged in advance.
