SUMMARY:Retrofitting for Energy Efficiency - Building Fabr
ic
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:
This co
urse\, which runs over three evenings\, is especia
lly for construction professionals involved in ren
ovating existing buildings\, and householders with
the same technical knowledge as professionals. It
's ideal for:
\n \n \n - Building survey
ors
\n - Building control officers
\n
- Architects
\n - Other building professi
onals
\n - Academic staff
\n - Heat
ing engineers
\n - Property developers
\n
\n \n It’s a chance to update your exis
ting knowledge and learn about building techniques
and materials used to make properties more energy
efficient and resilient to extreme weather like f
looding.
\n \n This course is CPD accredited
.
\n \n What the course covers
\n \n This course will give you a detailed knowledge on
refurbishing and improving buildings to make them
more sustainable\, reducing energy consumption an
d improving energy efficiency.
\n \n It cov
ers domestic and non-domestic buildings\, and the
main focus is on traditionally-built homes (e.g. s
olid-wall houses built before 1920).
\n \n T
he course will help you make decisions about mater
ials to use for different types of properties\, de
pending on the way they were built and their locat
ion. This includes a consideration of different ty
pes of lime and their specification.
\n \n T
hese factors are particularly important for choosi
ng the right types of insulation\, render and poin
ting\, in order to provide clients with warm\, dam
p-free homes.
\n \n Course topics
\n \n
Understanding the building fabric is key to up
grading it effectively. You’ll gain an understandi
ng of the differences between modern construction
and older buildings\, the fundamentals of the beha
viour of moisture in the different building types
and the options for thermal improvement.
\n \n
The course considers what these differences are
and how current best practice treats them.
\n
\n \n - Difference between modern and tradi
tional construction – definitions\, building types
and materials
\n - Moisture movement and v
apour permeability – liquid and vapour movement\,
capillarity\, porosity\, hygroscopicity\, condensa
tion risk analysis and hygrothermal modelling
\n - Insulation\, thermal resistance and u-valu
es and thermal mass
\n - Insulation types a
nd their installation – recognise factors and info
rmation sources in specifying internal versus exte
rnal wall insulation\, vapour open vs vapour close
d\, risks to the building and occupants and ease o
f installation.
\n - How thermal performanc
e is measured\, including an understanding of the
calculation of U-values and the consequences of th
ermal mass
\n - Issues raised from recent i
nsulation projects including some key social housi
ng projects
\n
\n \n Course level
\n \n The course is at a Level 4\, meaning tha
t the content is similar in level to a module of a
university bachelor’s degree.
\n \n Dates<
/h3>\n \n
This course consists of 3 evening ses
sions\, on Wed 11th\, 18th and 25th March. Each se
ssion runs from 6:45pm to 8:45pm. Delegates should
attend all 3 sessions in order to successfully co
mplete the course.
\n \n Price
\n \n The course is priced at just £30 per delegate\, t
hanks to support from South Lakeland District Coun
cil and Kendal College. This subsidised price cove
rs your attendance at all 3 evening sessions.
\n \n Location
\n \n Kendal College
\n \n Trainer
\n \n James Inner
dale is a highly experienced architect sp
ecialising in the repair\, conservation and adapta
tion of buildings.
\n \n Accessibility
\n \n Kendal College is wheelchair accessible\,
and disabled parking is available.
\n \n O
ther information
\n \n There are just 25 pl
aces on this course. If it’s oversubscribed\, we’l
