\n \nThe recent Committee on Climate Change report - Net Z ero: The UK’s contribution to stopping global warm ing (2019) - shows just how important the UK food sector is in reducing the country’s contributions to climate change. This includes efficient\, susta inable energy use\, food that is less carbon inten sive to produce\, reducing food waste\, and provid ing consumers with product information and feedbac k on purchasing habits.

s run by CAfS\, funded by the ERDF EIC Project at
the University of Cumbria and SLDC\, will help foo
d sector businesses and venues such as hotels and
restaurants in Cumbria to take action to reduce th
eir carbon footprint.
Fantastic speake rs including Mike Berners-Lee from Small World Con sulting. Mike consults\, thinks\, writes and resea rches on sustainability and responses to 21st cent ury challenges. He’s the founder of Small World Co nsulting\, an associate company of Lancaster Unive rsity that works with organisations from tech gian ts to supermarkets\, and is a leader in the field of carbon metrics. He is also a professor at Lanca ster University where his research includes sustai nable food systems and carbon metrics\, plus he ha s authored three books on climate change and susta inability.
\n \nWorking with Small World Co nsulting\, Sticklebarn has developed innovative wa ys to improve their carbon footprint and sustainab ility\, including calculating the carbon footprint of their menu\, improving waste handling and sour cing of ingredients. In 2018 Sticklebarn received a 2 star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant As sociation.
