Visit a factory that makes low-energy buildings

The Eden Insulation factory in Appleby is one of very few companies in the UK constructing ultra-low-energy buildings using pre-fabricated timber frames.
On this visit to their factory, you’ll learn how the highly skilled team make insulated, airtight panels, which they then erect on site. It usually takes just a few days for them to erect the building’s frame, ready for roofing and external cladding.
The buildings they construct are highly insulated with cellulose (recycled newsprint) and sealed for airtightness. Some of their buildings have gained the stringent Passivhaus certification for energy efficiency, including one here in Cumbria, which gained the second highest level of airtightness ever recorded in the UK at the time.
