Learn about types of lime, benefits, when and how to use it for pointing, plastering, insulation & more.

This full-day, hands-on training course is especially for the general public, including homeowners and self-build renovators who are working with old, damp, wet buildings, including those at risk from extreme weather, rainfall and flood.

Your trainer is lime expert Tim Wells from Eden Hot Lime Mortar, hosted at his custom-made training facility near Kirkby Stephen.

The course begins with a taught session to give you a good overview of:

  • types of lime
  • problems with houses that lime can resolve
  • protection of lime
  • breathable floor systems
  • insulation

Then it’s time to put your new knowledge into action during practical sessions. Tim will explain and demonstrate a range of lime uses and techniques. You’ll try them for yourself, with his guidance to help you build your skills in:

  • pointing
  • plastering
  • lath work
  • parging
  • skim work

Things to know before you book
