Join us to learn about Cumbria’s current greenhouse gas emissions, and hear inspiring examples of how the county is working towards net zero.

During the event we’ll share the key findings from the updated Summary of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Cumbria and Trajectories to Net Zero. The updated report builds on the original baseline from 2019, by including improved methodologies and new sources of data.

This latest report is an excellent indicator of the scale of Cumbria's emission reduction challenge, covering major sectors such as buildings, consumption & waste, farming & land use, and transport. It outlines the key sources of current emissions controlled or influenced by our local behaviours and choices, and which result from those visiting or just passing through our county.

The report draws on sources such as the UK's Sixth Carbon Budget, the National Food Stratey and the Tyndall energy decarbonisation pathways to identify potential decarbonisation trajectories to net zero, and has recommended some key emission reduction actions.

We’ll also see examples of positive and inspiring responses already happening across Cumbria to reduce emissions, including projects and actions led by local authorities, business, communities and young people.

These demonstrate the broad-based countywide commitment to tackling the climate crisis, and highlight the significant potential to scale up existing actions, plus adopt many more emission reduction measures.

The event will include a panel discussion with audience Q&A opportunities.

Contributors to the event include:

Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership, leading action to tackle climate change across Cumbria, and comprising more than eighty organisations from all different walks of life

Small World Consulting, the local consultancy commissioned to calculate Cumbria’s emissions baseline and proposed trajectories to net zero
