A different solution - solar PV without the upfront cost

This webinar explores how organisations can benefit from solar photovoltaic (PV) panels without having to pay anything upfront.

Quentin Merritt from CAfS will introduce the concept of community energy and the benefits it can bring to the participating sites, the community shareholders, and others in the local community.

Our guest speaker, Steve Lawler from community energy pioneer Baywind Energy Co-operative, will then talk about how they have been delivering this model in Cumbria for over 25 years. He'll explain how Baywind can install and maintain solar panels on suitable buildings and then sell the renewable electricity to the occupier at cheaper-than-market rates.

As a rough guide, a suitable building would be one with a large roof (capable of accommodating around 60 high power panels or more), in a good condition with a good orientation, plus high electricity usage.

We'll aim to answer any questions you might have, relating to building suitability, contracts, finances, technology, timescales or anything else you wish to know.

This webinar is suitable for organisations with suitable roofs and high electricity usage, interested in how to fund solar PV. It will also be of interest to community groups who are looking to encourage large sites in their area to consider this as a solution.

Baywind Energy Co-operative Ltd is an Industrial & Provident Society and was formed in 1996 along the lines of co-operative models successfully pioneered in Scandinavia. It became the first community-owned wind farm in the UK. The first two Baywind projects enabled a community in Cumbria to invest in local wind turbines. The original board of directors included 7 members of the community from Ulverston and Barrow. Baywind’s aim is to promote the generation of renewable energy and energy conservation.

Thanks to South Lakeland District Council for funding this event.
