Eco-Retrofit for Householders. Unit 1: Understanding Retrofit

Whether you are thinking about insulating your home, installing a low carbon heating system, or just wondering how to make your home more comfortable or cheaper to heat, this is the introduction you need.

Event description

Confused by talk of U-values and ‘breathability’ in buildings? Keen to understand how you can improve and insulate your home to make it warmer, whilst avoiding unintended consequences? Want to know enough to avoid being bamboozled, but don’t want to become a specialist? Then this unit is for you!

Topics covered will include:

  • The Whole House Approach
  • The Fabric-First Approach
  • Heat loss and gains
  • Introduction to airtightness (more on this in Unit 2)
  • Introduction to insulation (more on this in Unit 3)
  • Introduction to moisture management (more on this in Unit 4)

Find out the key principles with Tina Holt from CAfS and Marion Lloyd-Jones from Carbon Coop.

You can book on to all the events in the course or pick and choose. The links to each are below.

Unit 2: Airtightness
