what does it really mean? What kinds of things sh
ould a business look at?

ally hard to know where to start\, what your prior
ities should be\, or how to overcome some of the r
eally tricky challenges for your particular busine
ss - whether that's your carbon emissions\, reduci
ng waste or another environmental impact.

Join us for this free hour-long session\, jam-
packed with information to help you get on the rig
ht track\, and inspiration from local businesses t
hat have already had some successes on their journ
ey.
\n \n We're delighted to kick this sess
ion off with a talk from Damian Withers from St Ma
rks Stay in Sedbergh\, and Cathy Casey from The Cl
imbers Shop / Joe Brown Shops in Ambleside. Damian
and Cathy will talk about the action they've take
n to reduce their environmental impact and how the
y're embedding sustainability into their business.
\n \n Next\, you'll hear from our panel of
advisers (see below)\, sharing hands-on experienc
e of supporting businesses to reduce their environ
mental impact\, including how to measure your carb
on footprint\, how to embed sustainability in your
organisation and get environmental accreditation\
, and what support and funding is available to you
in Cumbria.
\n \n You'll then have a chanc
e to discuss your own ideas\, aspirations and the
challenges you are facing with our advisers\, who
will help you define the next steps towards reachi
ng your environmental goals.
\n \n The sessi
on will be an hour long\, with an optional extra h
alf an hour for discussion.
\n \n We're able
to offer this event free of charge thanks to supp
ort from South Lakeland District Council and Elect
ricity North West.

ator\, which will help identify the areas of y
our business that have the greatest impact on clim

Small Business
\n \n Green Small Business s
upports small businesses to manage their environme
ntal impacts and offers an environmental certifica
tion scheme. They use a simple framework that is s
ufficiently light touch for small businesses\, whi
le also being systematic and robust. More than 20
South Lakes businesses are now Green Small Busines
s certified\, with further businesses across the r
est of Cumbria and the UK. They include hospitalit
y\, retail\, manufacturing\, various service secto
rs and charities. Green Small Business provides di
rect\, high-level advice covering topics such ener
gy\, water\, waste and transport. They also offer
signposting to more specialist support\, using the
ir extensive directory of products and services.

ises in supporting businesses to develop their tri
ple bottom line - that is\, supporting you to deve
lop a strategy that has a positive impact on peopl
e and planet whilst also making a profit. Future F

greener\, from supply chain to customer. Importan
tly\, it advises on how to embed this ethos into y
our whole business strategy. The team can also run
training sessions for your staff to make sure tha
t everyone is on board with the green agenda. You
can also get support to make the most of your gree
n credentials in your marketing activity. Future F
ixers has particular knowledge of sustainable tour
ism\, a wide range of experience beyond this and a
background in working for environmental organisat
ions.

\n \n Nick has
a track record of leading and growing a commercial
ly successful organisation (Langdale Estate\, Brim
stone Hotel and Spa) while ensuring it operated wi
th consideration of its environmental footprint\,
its impact on the local community and its responsi
bility to its employees and shareholders. Subseque
ntly he worked with cafés\, a distillery\, garden
centre\, pottery and cultural experience. This has
provided him with a range of experience and knowl
edge that is adaptable and relevant to many local
businesses that may be looking for help\, support\
, reassurance or just an idea about how to start t
o reduce their contribution to the climate change
emergency.

Chris Hodgson (Ambleside Action for a Future and
