Making Pallet Furniture
Salvaged pallets are a great resource of free wood for upcycling, given that they're very widely available, often simply discarded or burnt as waste, yet have numerous uses and loads of rustic character. Many projects are possible even with only simple tools and basic carpentry skills.
The workshop will cover likely places to source pallets, how to split them, cutting and shaping, methods for joints, ideas for adding brackets and hinges, and possible finishes such as waxes and oils. We'll also discuss useful equipment such as hand tools and power tools for use at home, although during the workshop we'll be using hand tools only.
Each participant will get to make a wooden box to take home on the day (kits included in the price of the workshop) or start developing a project of your choice. A number of completed pallet projects will be available on show, to provide inspiration and prompt creativity!
Thank you to these organisations, who are supporting this year's Cumbria Green Build Festival in various ways!
